Chandigarh: Alcohol Abuse Behind 10 Deaths; Report

CHANDIGARH: Autopsy report of 10 spurious liquor victims, out of 12 in Sonipat, has established abuse of alcohol as cause death. However, police are waiting for the viscera report. Sonipat deputy commissioner Sham Lal Poonia, who is monitoring the investigations, said, “We are hopeful of getting viscera report in the next couple of days and shall proceed further after that.”

More than 45 people have died of the spurious liquor in Sonipat and Panipat districts, where police have registered multiple cases of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Meanwhile, in Kurukshetra, deputy excise and taxation commissioner Raj Kumar said the excise department has started a special campaign to take samples from liquor contracts and would collect “about eight to 10 daily”. He said the department collected 29 samples of liquor in the district on Monday and sent them for quality check.
